Juvelook comes as a dry powder of PDLLA particles and hyaluronic acid, and it has to be fully hydrated so the particles are evenly suspended before injection. For same-day preparation, Vaim's 2023 English brochure specifies 30 minutes on a vortex mixer; other official documents describe other routes to the same even suspension. Even suspension matters because the manufacturer describes nodules as clumped ("massed") particles.

Why is Juvelook mixed in a machine?

Juvelook has to be fully hydrated before it is injected, and a vortex mixer is the tool the manufacturer specifies for same-day preparation because it mixes evenly and on time. [1] Each vial holds a fixed amount of PDLLA (poly-D,L-lactic acid) particles and non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid (HA); for example, 42.5 mg of PDLLA and 7.5 mg of HA in the 50 mg Juvelook vial. [2] It arrives dry and must be reconstituted with liquid before use. [1]

Why preparation matters: Hydration; Even mixing; Clinician assessment. Illustration only; not a preparation protocol.

The goal of mixing is simple: every drop in the syringe should carry the same amount of particles.

What happens during hydration?

A vortex mixer spins the vial in fast, tight circles so the liquid swirls through the powder. The manufacturer describes Juvelook's particles as porous microspheres, [1] and the liquid is thought to need time to wet them fully so they float freely instead of sticking together.

If mixing is too short, you can end up with a suspension that isn't uniform. Some areas of the syringe may carry more particles than others. Particles that sit still for a while can also settle.

How long is Juvelook mixed? (manufacturer's guidance)

Official documents describe more than one method. These are the manufacturer's and its partner's published figures, not a description of any one clinic's own recipe:

Document Timing Mixing
Vaim 2023 English brochure Same day Vortex mixer, 30 min
Vaim 2023 English brochure Liquid added 24 hours ahead, vial kept at room temperature Roll the vial between the hands for 10 min
FILLMED UK (Vaim's UK partner), Juvelook Same day, 6 mL bacteriostatic saline 5 syringe passes + 2 min of shaking, or 5 min on a vortex mixer

Why do the official methods differ?

The documents were published for different markets and in different years, and each gives its own route to the same result: a smooth, even suspension. A longer vortex, a 24-hour soak followed by hand rolling, and syringe passes are different ways to get there. If you were treated abroad, you may have seen one of these methods.

We haven't found an official explanation of why the timings differ. The practical answer is that the right method is the one the manufacturer or its partner specifies for the product being used.

Is Juvelook mixed with saline or sterile water?

The documents differ, so here they are side by side. Vaim's 2023 English brochure says to add "normal saline or distilled water." [1] Vaim's UK partner uses 6 mL of bacteriostatic saline for Juvelook. [3] A 2026 rabbit study of Juvelook reconstituted the product with 6 mL of sterile normal saline. [4]

Is one better? For Juvelook, we have not found a published study that compares them. The closest paper is a 2020 lab study of a different PDLLA product, one that uses carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) as its carrier instead of HA. With vortex mixing, only sterile water and mannitol reconstituted it effectively. With a syringe "back-and-forth" method, all six diluents tested worked, including normal saline. [5] Because that product's carrier is different, these results can't be applied directly to Juvelook. At our clinic, we use saline.

Does mixing affect lumps?

It is one of several factors. The manufacturer describes nodules as "massed PDLLA particles," so an even suspension is one part of prevention, and injection technique and even placement are the other. [1] For the full picture, read Juvelook lumps and nodules.

How we prepare Juvelook at our clinic

At our clinic, we hydrate Juvelook with saline and add a local anesthetic for comfort. It's prepared in three steps: first mixed on a vortex mixer, mixed again on the vortex right before your treatment, and then mixed back and forth between syringes (how we prepare Juvelook). Board-certified dermatologists then place it with GLT™ (Gentle Layered Treatment), spreading it in thin layers rather than concentrating it in one spot, through GLT™ Collagen Healer for skin quality or GLT™ Collagen Volume Lifting for volume.

Side effects and who shouldn't have Juvelook are covered on our Juvelook treatment page.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why can't Juvelook be mixed by hand?

It can be, in some official methods. Vaim's 2023 English brochure describes adding the liquid 24 hours ahead and rolling the vial between the hands for 10 minutes, and Vaim's UK partner describes syringe passes plus shaking. For same-day preparation, the brochure specifies a vortex mixer, which gives consistent, timed mixing.

How long is Juvelook mixed?

It depends on the method. Vaim's 2023 English brochure gives 30 minutes on a vortex mixer for same-day preparation, or 10 minutes of rolling by hand after the liquid has rested in the vial for 24 hours. Vaim's UK partner gives 5 minutes on a vortex mixer, or syringe passes plus 2 minutes of shaking.

Is Juvelook mixed with saline or water?

The manufacturer's documents mention both. Vaim's 2023 English brochure allows normal saline or distilled water, and Vaim's UK partner uses bacteriostatic saline. At our clinic, we use saline.

Can Juvelook be mixed the day before?

Vaim's 2023 English brochure describes a 24-hour method: add the liquid, keep the vial at room temperature and roll it by hand for 10 minutes. The same brochure also describes a same-day method with 30 minutes on a vortex mixer.

Does mixing affect lumps?

It is one factor. The manufacturer describes nodules as clumped particles, so an even suspension helps. Injection technique and even placement matter just as much.
