Juvelook

Juvelook in Seoul: Collagen-Stimulating Treatment by Board-Certified Dermatologists

Juvelook is a collagen-stimulating injectable made by Vaim, a Korean company, that combines PDLLA (poly-D,L-lactic acid) particles with non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid. [1][2] Rather than filling a line with gel, it helps your skin build its own collagen over time. [2][3] At Glassy Skin Clinic in Cheongdam, Seoul, our board-certified dermatologists use Juvelook for skin quality and Juvelook Volume for lost volume, both with GLT™ (Gentle Layered Treatment).

How many sessions, and when will I see results?

Even one session gives results, which suits you if you visit Seoul once or twice a year. For the best results, repeat sessions as the manufacturer recommends. [2][11] Think of it like exercise: one workout stimulates the muscle, but visible growth needs regular sessions. Collagen stimulation works the same way.

Juvelook Juvelook Volume
At our clinic 3 or more sessions, 1 to 3 months apart Usually 3 sessions, 6 to 12 weeks apart

Results build gradually. With Juvelook Volume, in principle, your own collagen starts to form from about one month after treatment and keeps building over the second and third months and beyond. The manufacturer describes results lasting about 12 to 18 months for Juvelook and 18 to 24 months for Juvelook Volume; [2] in our clinic's experience, after 3 sessions, results last roughly that long. We'll plan sessions around your trips.

How we do Juvelook at Glassy Skin Clinic

Video: Once afraid of painful skin boosters in Japan, she had Juvelook, Re2O and Rejuran with GLT™ at our clinic in Cheongdam, Seoul's luxury district near K-pop Idol Street.

For Glassy’s skin-quality programme, explore GLT™ Collagen Healer. Looking for volume care? Learn about Juvelook Volume (Lenisna).

Juvelook vs Juvelook Volume: which program?

Juvelook has smaller particles and improves skin quality; Juvelook Volume has larger particles, goes deeper and restores volume. [2] At our clinic, each is its own GLT™ program:

Juvelook product

GLT™ Collagen Healer with Juvelook Glow and glass-skin texture for dry skin, rough texture, fine lines and dullness. Full face (except the eye area), plus an under-eye option for fine lines.

Both can be done on the same day, in different layers. See Juvelook vs Juvelook Volume and under-eye treatment options.

Who is Juvelook for?

Juvelook may suit you if you have fine lines, large pores, shallow acne scars, uneven skin texture or dehydrated skin. [3] Juvelook Volume may suit you if you have volume loss, including under-eye and mid-cheek hollows (under-eye treatment options).

All skin tones. In our clinic's experience, Juvelook works for all skin tones, and many patients notice brighter, smoother-looking skin. In an animal study in mice, PDLLA filler reduced UVB-induced pigmentation by limiting damage to the skin's basement membrane; this hasn't been shown in people. [13]

Downtime, aftercare and side effects

  • Downtime: thanks to GLT™, in our clinic's experience most patients can wear makeup right after treatment and go back to work the same day.
  • Skin-layer Juvelook: in our clinic's experience, it doesn't cause swelling, because the product is placed very close to the skin surface. The Hycoox injector has 9 fine needles, so you may see small red marks for 1–3 days (up to 1–7 days if you have sensitive skin).
  • Swelling after Juvelook Volume: lasts 3–7 days on average; in some people it can last 10–14 days. In our clinic's experience this is part of the normal response as your skin starts building collagen.
  • Bruising: uncommon; it usually clears within about 2 weeks.
  • Nodules: uncommon, mainly linked to product gathering in one spot. [12] The manufacturer says they can usually be dispersed without surgery. [2] If a nodule is suspected, our dermatologists inject sterile saline, warm the area with RF microneedling (3DEEP) so the PDLLA particles soften, and use firm massage to break it up (Juvelook lumps and nodules).
  • Massage: right after Juvelook Volume, a nurse trained by our dermatologists shows you how to massage the area firmly for 1–2 minutes, as Vaim's UK partner recommends, [11] and your dermatologist checks once more that you're doing it correctly. After skin-layer Juvelook, massage is optional. There is no daily home massage routine (massage after Juvelook).
  • No salon facials for 2 weeks: pressure and friction can temporarily disrupt the skin barrier.
  • Happy Call: the day after every treatment, our team contacts you. If you're worried, send a photo via WhatsApp or Instagram and we'll explain what you're seeing.

How we prepare Juvelook

At our clinic, we hydrate Juvelook with saline and add a local anesthetic for comfort. It's prepared in three steps: first mixed on a vortex mixer, mixed again on the vortex right before your treatment, and then mixed back and forth between syringes.

The goal is an even suspension, so every drop carries the same amount of particles. The manufacturer's guidance also uses vortex mixing. [2][11] Read more: why Juvelook is mixed in a machine.

How Juvelook is delivered

At our clinic, Juvelook can be delivered in five ways:

Method How it works Used for
Hycoox multi-needle injector Nine fine needles deliver small, even amounts over a wide area Full-face skin quality and glow; under-eye fine lines (shallowest skin layer)
Hand injection A fine needle, point by point Deep, depressed scars or deep scar-like wrinkles
TRIFILL Pro (MCURE, Korea) A CO₂ gas and drug delivery system that enables CO₂ gas-assisted subcision Scars, combined with hand injection
Potenza (RF microneedling) Juvelook applied first; microneedles and radiofrequency help it reach deeper and more evenly, in repeated passes [9] Pores, pitted acne scars, texture, wrinkles
CureJet (needle-free) A high-pressure jet, no needle [7][8] Pores, pitted acne scars, texture, wrinkles

For scars, we can combine hand injection with CO₂ gas-assisted subcision using TRIFILL Pro to get the most out of scar treatment. Which method, or combination, suits you depends on your skin concern, how severe it is, and your dermatologist's assessment.

Juvelook Volume goes in with a blunt cannula, which needs fewer entry points and is designed to reduce bruising and discomfort. [10] Comparing the 1 cc price you often see in other clinics' quotes? See what a 1 cc quote actually buys.

Who should not have Juvelook?

Juvelook may not be right for you if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active infection or inflammation in the treatment area, have an autoimmune condition, or take anti-inflammatory or immunosuppressive medication. [12] Tell your dermatologist if you take blood-thinning medication; an expert consensus on PDLLA advises extra caution. [12] For GLT™ Collagen Healer you usually don't need to stop it; for GLT™ Collagen Volume Lifting, see the FAQ on our GLT™ Collagen Volume Lifting page. If you have had an autoimmune disease since childhood, such as Behçet's disease, lupus or rheumatoid arthritis, GLT™ Collagen Volume Lifting with Juvelook Volume isn't the right treatment for you. Tell us about any past reactions to hyaluronic acid or polylactic acid products.

Your questions

Frequently asked questions

Is Juvelook a filler?

Not in the usual sense. Juvelook is a collagen stimulator. Its hyaluronic acid is non-crosslinked, so it doesn't act as a lasting gel filler. The main effect comes from the collagen your own skin builds over the following weeks and months.

What is the difference between Juvelook and Juvelook Volume?

Juvelook has smaller particles and goes into the dermis to improve skin quality: dry skin, rough texture, fine lines, pores and dullness. Juvelook Volume (sold as Lenisna in some markets) has larger particles and goes deeper to restore lost volume, such as under-eye hollows, the mid-cheek and temples. At our clinic, they are two programs: GLT™ Collagen Healer with Juvelook and GLT™ Collagen Volume Lifting with Juvelook Volume.

Is Juvelook FDA-approved?

No. Juvelook is approved in Korea by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) and carries the CE mark in Europe, but it is not FDA-approved in the United States.

How many Juvelook sessions do I need if I live abroad?

Even one session gives results, which suits patients who visit Seoul once or twice a year. For the best results, sessions are repeated: at our clinic, Juvelook 3 or more sessions 1 to 3 months apart, and Juvelook Volume usually 3 sessions 6 to 12 weeks apart. Tell us your travel dates and we'll plan around them.

Can I wear makeup after Juvelook?

In our clinic's experience, most patients can wear makeup right after treatment and go back to work the same day. Skin-layer Juvelook doesn't cause swelling, because it's placed very close to the skin surface; the Hycoox injector has 9 fine needles, so you may see small red marks for 1–3 days (up to 1–7 days with sensitive skin). After Juvelook Volume (GLT™ Collagen Volume Lifting), swelling lasts 3 to 7 days on average and can last 10 to 14 days in some people; in our clinic's experience this is part of the normal response as your skin starts building collagen. Bruising is uncommon.

Does Juvelook hurt?

We apply numbing cream before treatment and use GLT™ (Gentle Layered Treatment) without sedation, so your dermatologist can adjust as you go. In our clinic's experience, most patients rate the discomfort at about 1 to 3 out of 10. Everyone's sensitivity is different.

Can I combine Juvelook with other treatments on the same day?

Yes. Wrinkle-relaxing injections, collagen injections for wrinkles, lasers such as pico and lifting treatments such as Sofwave can all be done on the same day as Juvelook. With GLT™, discomfort stays low, and in our clinic's experience these treatments can complement each other, so many patients combine them to make the most of one visit. We usually do wrinkle injections first, as they can feel slightly more uncomfortable.

Can Juvelook be used on areas other than the face?

Yes. Juvelook can be used anywhere with skin, such as the neck, décolletage (chest), hands and stretch marks, although most of our patients come for the face. Juvelook Volume can also be used to add volume to the buttocks. Your dermatologist will advise which program suits each area.

Is there an age limit for Juvelook?

Juvelook is generally used in adults; for younger patients (for example, with scars), your dermatologist decides case by case. There's no fixed upper age limit — we treat patients in their 80s and 90s.

Does Juvelook work on darker skin tones?

In our clinic's experience, Juvelook works for all skin tones, and many patients notice brighter, smoother-looking skin. In an animal study in mice, PDLLA reduced pigmentation caused by UVB light, but this hasn't been shown in people. Your dermatologist checks your skin and plans your treatment at consultation.

How long do Juvelook results last?

Vaim, the manufacturer, describes results lasting about 12 to 18 months for Juvelook and 18 to 24 months for Juvelook Volume. In our clinic's experience, after 3 sessions 1 to 3 months apart, results last roughly that long; your dermatologist tailors the schedule to your skin type and response. Too little dilution, sessions too close together and large doses can cause side effects, so more isn't always better (Juvelook dilution and nodules).

What aftercare do I need after Juvelook?

You can wash your face and use your usual skincare from the same day; wait at least 2 weeks before retinol or scrubs, and use sunscreen every day. For alcohol, exercise that makes you sweat and saunas, wait at least 1 week (2 is better) after GLT™ Collagen Healer with Juvelook, and 2 weeks after GLT™ Collagen Volume Lifting with Juvelook Volume. See GLT™ Collagen Healer and GLT™ Collagen Volume Lifting for details.

Can Juvelook cause lumps or nodules, and what should I do if I notice one?

Lumps or nodules can occur even with careful preparation and placement. Contact the clinic if you notice a persistent or new lump; avoid starting vigorous massage or attempting treatment yourself without medical advice.

Can Juvelook help pores or pitted acne scars?

Juvelook may be considered within a plan for selected pores, texture or pitted scars, but the scar type and cause matter. Some scars need a different treatment or combination rather than injections alone.

Should I choose Juvelook or Rejuran?

Juvelook and Rejuran contain different materials and serve different roles in a skin-quality plan. Your dermatologist assesses your main concern and existing facial volume before discussing either product or a combination.

Juvelook product

Components & how it works

Juvelook

PDLLANon-crosslinked hyaluronic acid

PDLLA particles encourage your skin to form new collagen around them, then are gradually absorbed. [2][3] Non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid carries the particles evenly and adds early hydration. [2] So results build gradually, not instantly.

Juvelook is approved in Korea by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) as a Class IV medical device [1] and carries the CE mark in Europe. [2] It is not FDA-approved in the United States. It is not in the FDA's approval database for dermal fillers. [5][6]

The Juvelook product family

Vaim makes several Juvelook products (Juvelook i, Skin, Juvelook, Volume 100, Volume and G). [1] At our clinic we use the two below:

Product Vial Particle size (manufacturer) Made for
Juvelook 50 mg 20–40 µm Texture, fine lines, acne scars
Juvelook Volume (Lenisna) 200 mg 40–80 µm Lost volume, hollows

Juvelook Volume product

Components & how it works

Juvelook Volume

PDLLANon-crosslinked hyaluronic acid

Juvelook Volume combines PDLLA (poly-D,L-lactic acid) particles with non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid. [1] Its particles are larger than those in Juvelook and it is placed deeper, where fat and support have been lost. [2] Vaim lists the cheeks, nasolabial folds and temples among its areas. [2]

It is not a traditional filler. It leads your skin to build its own collagen, so results appear gradually. In principle, your own collagen starts to form from about one month after treatment and keeps building over the second and third months and beyond. In an animal study in aged mice, collagen was measured at 2, 4 and 8 weeks after injection and was highest at week 8, though animal results don't show exact timing in people. [4]
