Juvelook vs Juvelook Volume: What's the Difference and Which One Do You Need?

At a glance

Juvelook and Juvelook Volume use the same collagen-stimulating ingredient (PDLLA with hyaluronic acid) but do different jobs. Juvelook has smaller particles and goes into the shallow skin layer for fine lines, rough texture, dryness and glow. Juvelook Volume, sold as Lenisna in some markets, has larger particles, goes deeper and is used for hollows such as the tear trough and mid-cheek.

What is the difference between Juvelook and Juvelook Volume?

Juvelook is for skin quality. Juvelook Volume is for lost volume. Both are made by Vaim in Korea, and both combine PDLLA (poly-D,L-lactic acid) particles with non-cross-linked hyaluronic acid. [1] Juvelook has smaller particles and is placed in the dermis, the shallow layer of the skin. It targets fine lines, rough texture, dryness and dullness. Juvelook Volume has larger particles and a bigger, more concentrated vial. It is placed deeper, in the lower dermis and fat layer, to restore lost volume. [2] At our clinic, we use it for hollows such as the tear trough and mid-cheek, and for the temples.

Two different goals: Skin texture; Volume support; Individual plan. Placement and suitability require examination.
Placement and suitability require examination.

Both lead your skin to build its own collagen; the difference is particle size, concentration and layer. For the science, see how Juvelook builds collagen.

Outside Korea, Juvelook Volume is sold as Lenisna in some markets, including Brazil and Europe, with the same 170 mg of PDLLA and 30 mg of hyaluronic acid per vial. [3][4]

The skin-layer family also includes Juvelook i and Juvelook Skin, which come in smaller 30 mg vials. [1] For the full range, see Juvelook products explained.

Which one is right for under-eye concerns?

  • Fine lines and dry, crepey skin → Juvelook. This is a skin-quality concern. At our clinic, we place 0.5 cc of Juvelook in the shallowest skin layer with the Hycoox 9-needle injector, as GLT™ Collagen Healer with Juvelook. It covers the under-eye area only and can be added to a full-face session on the same day or done on its own. It is not for hollows.
  • Hollows and a tear trough → Juvelook Volume. This is volume loss. We use a blunt cannula, which is designed to reduce discomfort, and usually treat the under-eye and mid-cheek together, as GLT™ Collagen Volume Lifting with Juvelook Volume. See under-eye hollows and the mid-cheek.
  • Puffy bags from protruding fat → neither, as a first step. These may respond better to eyelid surgery. [5]

Can you have Juvelook and Juvelook Volume on the same day?

Yes. The two products work in different layers. The order doesn't matter medically. The Healer with Juvelook, with its 9-needle injector at the skin surface, can feel more uncomfortable than Volume Lifting, so our clinic usually does the Healer first, putting your comfort first. Your dermatologist decides which areas and how much at your consultation.

Sessions, downtime and aftercare: what's different?

  • Sessions. Even one session gives results; repeat sessions give the fullest result, because collagen builds gradually. At our clinic, we space Juvelook 1–3 months apart and Juvelook Volume 6–12 weeks apart, depending on skin type and your trips (plan your visits). See how many Juvelook sessions you need.
  • Downtime. The same for both: in our clinic's experience, most patients can wear makeup right after treatment and go back to work the same day, including after Juvelook Volume under the eyes.
  • Massage. This is where they differ. Vaim's UK partner, FILLMED, recommends a firm 1–2 minute massage right after injection. [6] After Juvelook Volume, right after treatment, a nurse trained by our dermatologists shows you how to massage the area firmly for 1–2 minutes, and your dermatologist checks once more that you're doing it correctly. After skin-layer Juvelook, massage is optional. There is no daily home routine for either. See massage after Juvelook.

After any treatment, avoid facial massage at other salons or spas for at least 2 weeks, because pressure and friction can temporarily disrupt the skin barrier.

How we use each at Glassy Skin Clinic

At our clinic, we hydrate Juvelook with saline and add a local anesthetic for comfort. It's prepared in three mixing steps: vortex, a second vortex right before treatment, and syringe-to-syringe mixing (how we prepare Juvelook).

GLT™ (Gentle Layered Treatment), developed by Dr. Judy (Hong Jin Joo), places product in thin layers. Board-certified dermatologists treat you in a private room, with numbing cream and no sedation (comfort and pain control).

Full-face Juvelook (GLT™ Collagen Healer with Juvelook — Essential, 4 cc) is ₩495,000 per session, or ₩450,000 per session as a 3-session course, including 10% VAT. See all Juvelook prices.

Safety in brief

Redness, small bumps at injection points and bruising can occur and are usually temporary. [7] In our clinic's experience, skin-layer Juvelook doesn't cause swelling, because the product is placed very close to the skin surface; the Hycoox injector has 9 fine needles, so you may see small red marks for 1–3 days (up to 1–7 days if you have sensitive skin). After Juvelook Volume (GLT™ Collagen Volume Lifting), swelling lasts 3–7 days on average; in some people it can last 10–14 days. In our clinic's experience this is part of the normal response as your skin starts building collagen. Bruising is uncommon and, if it happens, usually clears within about 2 weeks. Neither product is suitable during pregnancy, with an active infection or inflammation in the area, or over a non-absorbable filler in the same area and layer. [7] At our clinic, GLT™ Collagen Volume Lifting with Juvelook Volume also isn't the right treatment for people who have had an autoimmune disease since childhood, such as Behçet's disease, lupus or rheumatoid arthritis. Firm lumps are less common; if one doesn't settle within a few weeks, contact us rather than rubbing it yourself, and see Juvelook lumps and nodules.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which is better for under the eyes, Juvelook or Juvelook Volume?

It depends on what you see. Fine lines and dry, crepey under-eye skin are a skin-quality concern, so we use Juvelook in the shallow skin layer. A hollow, groove or tear trough is volume loss, so we use Juvelook Volume with a blunt cannula, usually together with the mid-cheek. Many people have some of both, which we assess in person.

Is Lenisna the same as Juvelook Volume?

Yes. Lenisna is the name used for Juvelook Volume in some markets outside Korea, including Brazil and Europe. Each vial contains the same 170 mg of PDLLA and 30 mg of hyaluronic acid. Treatments with the same name can still differ in the doctor's technique, the amount injected, the needle size and the depth, so we can't tell you whether a same-named treatment elsewhere will give the same result.

Can I have Juvelook and Juvelook Volume on the same day?

Yes. They work in different layers, so both can be done in one visit if you have texture concerns and volume loss. The order doesn't matter medically. Because the Healer with Juvelook (9-needle injector at the skin surface) can feel more uncomfortable than Volume Lifting, our clinic usually does it first, putting your comfort first. Your dermatologist decides the areas and amounts at your consultation.

Will one session of Juvelook or Juvelook Volume work?

Yes, even one session gives results, which suits international patients who visit once or twice a year. For the fullest result, the manufacturer recommends a course of repeat sessions, because collagen builds gradually, much like muscle builds with regular workouts.

Does Juvelook Volume work instantly like a filler?

No. Juvelook Volume is not a traditional filler. It stimulates your own collagen, so the main change builds gradually rather than appearing all at once. In principle, your own collagen starts to form from about one month after treatment and keeps building over the second and third months and beyond.
